DON'T CALL IT A "MIXTAPE": SUMMER 2010

(No Limit Records artwork from the 90's as interpreted by Illogical Contraption)

As some of you may remember, Manslaughter posted a psych-rock "Summer Mix" back here. But technically, TODAY is the first day of summer -- which is ironic, considering the thick layer of shitty fog currently blanketing the Bay Area. I posted a "Spring Non-Mixtape" right here and a "Winter Non-Mixtape" right here, let's welcome the season with a double-dose of ill jams this time around, culled in its entirety from the oft-neglected hip-hop genre. That's correct, my friends: there's no better soundtrack to summer fun cruising with the top down than the phat beats and dope rhymes you will find herein. 42 songs clocking in at two and a half hours, each volume carefully formatted to fit comfortably into the confines of the archaic "compact disc" medium. Not a "complete study" on rap music by any stretch of the imagination, but a pretty accurate cross-section of what Professor Cobras has been bumpin' lately. Enjoy Shit Witch or Die Frying, IllCon's guide to guns, money, and ho's.

RAPIDSHARE SUCKS ASS (Another Maintenance Post)

(EDITOR'S NOTE: DUE TO A DMCA "TAKEDOWN NOTICE", ALL DIRECT DOWNLOAD LINKS HAVE BEEN REMOVED FROM THIS POST AND THE OTHER ONE LIKE IT.)

Has anyone else noticed how bad things have gotten on the Rapidshare filehosting service? Not only do I get the same "no room for you, too many PREMIUM members using RS right now" (fucking elitists!) message whenever I try to download from the site, but recent policy changes and dwindling concern for user friendliness have quickly moved the folks at Rapidshit to the top of my "People To Kill" list.
Allow me to elaborate: Maybe you guys remember the 'Yearly Maintenance' post I put up on Decemeber 3. Well, the "maintenance" was neccesary due to the fact that Rapidfuck has a 3-month "expiration date" of sorts, meaning that when a file doesn't get downloaded for 90 days it gets deleted. Fair enough. I understand that memory is money and Rapidcock can't afford to store endless amounts of information indefinitely. Hence about 60 albums (out of about 350) from the I.C. Archives were deleted from the Rapidballs server within the first year of this blog's existence. So I went through, found the missing files, and re-upped them on either MediaFire or Megaupload (who aren't without their issues either, but don't have the same "expiration date" policy and are generally far superior to Rapidsack). These 60 albums were the ones featured in the 'Yearly Maintenance' post. Feeling as though I had put my business straight and wouldn't have to worry about upload maintenance for another year or so, I (relatively) forgot about the whole thing and moved on, now using MediaFire as my main file-host.
Well, here's the bad news: Out of pure curiosity, I went back recently to check on the "health" of the old files still stored on Rapidsuck. Guess what? Someone must have changed their "expiration date" from 3 months to 3 days, because in the last two months, almost HALF of the stuff I had on there is now gone (this is over 120 albums - A LOT). So here we go again.

I'm not even sure what Rapidsphincter's policies actually are these days, but shit seems to be going downhill fast. I'm sure I'll eventually have to move everything left over there on to a different filehosting service, which I don't mind doing. But it takes A LOT of time to do it. Shit, a whole lot of music has probably been deleted since I started work on this round of maintenance. And I'll get around to restoring ALL of it eventually. But not now. I'm exhausted.

Enjoy.

SON OF BAZERK - BAZERK BAZERK BAZERK (1991)

The hip-hop genre has been largely neglected here on Illogical Contraption, except for the occasional shit-talking on Screamo Crunk or video featuring a Nickelodeon/Lil' Jon mashup. This just ain't right.
As partial penance for this transgression, I offer the 1991 Son of Bazerk album Bazerk Bazerk Bazerk. This shit kills. The first time I heard it, I thought it was some obscure Public Enemy song that had slipped past my radar. But a couple minutes in, I realized it wasn't in fact Chuck D on vocals (although the similarity is striking). Son of Bazerk was produced by The Bomb Squad, the same team that engineered P.E.'s apocalyptic wall-of-sound, which explains the connection. S.O.B.'s audio dynamics are just as dense as intense, although Bazerk are a little more concerned with gettin' some booties shakin' than fuckin' up the government.
Try bumping this record at your next house party. Then, try to keep the asses from movin'. Really. I DARE YOU.
