DRUDKH - BLOOD IN OUR WELLS (2006)

'Blood In Our Wells' is the fourth full-length release from Ukrainian atmospheric black metallers Drudkh. Shrouded in secrecy and political controversy (they have been accused of promoting Nationalist ideals but deny any political affiliation), Drudkh plays stripped-down, mid-tempo black metal with experimental elements and frequent references to traditional Ukrainian folk music. 'Blood' is an interesting listen, the lengthy songs peppered with movie samples and acoustic interludes (the intro, 'Nav', being an excellent example) but veering into more malicious territory on the first proper track, 'Furrows Of Gods', and the album closer 'Ukrainian Insurgent Army' (how could anyone accuse these guys of having a political agenda?). If you dig screechy, epic black metal of questionable moral values like Burzum or Darkthrone, check out some Drudkh. HARSH.
