THIN LIZZY - BAD REPUTATION (1977)

Hopefully you poser dorks are already schooled on Thin Lizzy. If not, I'll have to ask you politlely to leave. Because they rule.
Maybe this album has a couple clunkers on it ("That Woman's Gonna Break Your Heart", "Dancing in the Moonlight (It's Caught Me in Its Spotlight"), but in my opinion every mis-step is redeemed tenfold by an awesome rocker like "Soldier of Fortune" or "Opium Trail". Not to mention the title track, which is one of the best songs ever written. Annihilation Time does a pretty decent cover of it, in fact.
Did you notice that Robbo isn't pictured on the cover? That's because he only played on two measly tracks, and was in the process of getting booted (at which point he joined Motorhead, where he was promptly booted as well). Robbo is kind of a douche.

Phil Lynott was one of the greats. If someone reading this aren't tuned in to the awesomeness of Thin Lizzy, here's a kickass live show from 83 to help you along:

If you can watch this without jamming the air-instrument of your choice on at least a couple of the songs, you should stop your affiliation with rock and roll music altogether.

I was getting a tattoo two weeks ago and somebody's ipod was on shuffle (I fucking HATE shuffle!) and "Wild One" came on. It was a unanimous decision to put on Thin Lizzy. Thin Lizzy + getting tattooed; a perfect experience.

Great post.... agree with all your comments about Lizzy ruling...

quick correction... Robbo was out of the band when that cover was made, but he did not join Motorhead at that time (this was 1977)... he joined Motorhead in 1983... and yes, he was a douchebag... both in Lizzy and in Motorhead... great guitarist, but totally unreliable and unpredictable, throwing more tantrums than elton john ;)

"Dancing in the Moonlight" reaches beyond art into the realm of the ineffable and sublime. One of the greatest songs ever written, in my opinion. But that's the subjective nature of the listening experience. One man's clunker is another man's passport to infinity.

Thin Lizzy simply rocks. And this album is unbelievable, outstanding, and despite some really bad songs, the rest of the tracks simply cover that mess.
