Confess!! Confess!!

Following on from my last post and seeing how there seems to be much love for Confessor around these heah parts, I figured I'd whip up a li'l something to complement Cobras previous Confessor posts, and because some anonymous dude asked for it.

First up here is Confessor covering two Trouble tunes, taken from their 'Condemned' EP, and a Sabbath number, from Earache's Sabbath tribute album.

Next up, some KILLER footage of Confessor live in beautiful Bradford, UK, back in the day....

...and the frankly MIND-BOGGLING deconstruction of the drum part from 'Condemned' by STEVE FUCKING SHELTON....

THE MAN HAS OCTOPUS DNA.

Now, as we all know, Confessor originally split up around 1993, but reformed in 2002, following the death of original guitarist Ivan Colon.

In 2003, they made the 3-track 'Blueprint Soul' Demo/EP, which I have thoughtfully provided here, BUT, WHAT were they doing between 1993 and 2002, you may well wonder?

Well, I'll TELL ya - during the nineties, octodrummer STEVE FUCKING SHELTON and bassist Cary Rowells had a band called Fly Machine, with guitarist/vocalist Dave Dorsey and guitarist Chris Nolan, who went on to later join the reformed Confessor for a while.

Fly Machine released a self-titled album in 1997, and THAT is about all I know about 'em. Stylistically, they resemble exactly what they ARE - a middle-ground between the math-doom Confessor of old and the subtly Alice In Chains-influenced Confessor of the 'Unravelled' LP. Vocalist Dave Dorsey sounds like a less histrionic Scott Jeffreys, and STEVE FUCKING SHELTON still sounds like STEVE FUCKING SHELTON.

The record sounds, to me, like Confessor playing outtakes from Alice in Chains 'Dirt' LP, filtered through 'Pony Express Record era Shudder to Think, which is NO bad thing at all.
If you want it, then get it here.

Sadly, I couldn't find a picture of the band, so instead, here is an obvious joke...

...and a picture of Gene Simmons punching Adolf Hitler.

Buh-bye.

kl/Gene Simmons AND hitler... hmmm - you never see them both in the same room...

But confessor - nostalgia as I saw them play in Bradford. (lovely place indeed!)

But I never got to grips with the girly singing.

Wait, are you insinuating that Gene Simmons and Hitler could be one and the same person?!? CONSPIRACY ALERT! Ok, so, maaaaybe, Gene used the combined powers of The Starchild and The Spaceman to go back in time and disguise himself as Hitler in order to exterminate all of the other jews, so that in the FUTURE, he could go back and harvest all of the money that those shrewd and industrious people WOULD have made, had they not been slaughtered. It's a crazy idea, but it MIGHT just work. Think about it. Gene is ruthlessly tyrannical about Kiss' business interests, and he loves money SO much that he trademarked the dollar sign - the motivation is there. Also, if you play God of Thunder backwards whilst playing a trumpet, it DOES sound a BIT like 'Deutschland Uber Alles'.....MY GOD, MAN...I THINK WE'RE ONTO SOMETHING!!!

Shhh....keep it to ourselves. We don't want 'Gene' to know we're onto him.

MOVING ON, your lack of grippage with the 'girl' singing of Mr Jeffrey must have started to get to him, as when they played in Liverpool, due to heckling, he attempted to sing the set Death-metal style. The crowd were pleased. I was NOT.

The Alice in Chains feel isn't necessarily what you fear it MAY be. Do you like 'Sour Times' and 'Unravelled' by Confessor? If so, then Fly Machine is LESS AIC than THEY are!

I remember that Fly Machine recording to have been ridiculously hard to track down the first time I found it online. It's good to see it up here. Oh, and if you fellows haven't posted any of their material yet, be sure to check out Loincloth ( http://www.myspace.com/fuckfalsemetal ).

S'funny you should mention Loincloth, Mr ofHuginn, you can find 'em HERE in the epic post about Pen Rollings I did. According to their MySpack account, they seem to be still around, but BY CROM they've been quiet for TOO long!!
