SATURDAY MORNING DOUBLE FEATURE: RUM, SODOM, AND THE THRASH

Since nothing goes together quite as well as a sunny Saturday afternoon and a shitload of shredding, dirty, German metal, here are the first two full-length releases from Geisenkirchen's prodigal sons, Sodom.
Sodom was formed in 1982, and put out their first demo recordings that same year. Their first "official" release, the In The Sign of Evil EP, appeared in '84, and was followed by 1986's Obsessed By Cruelty (below) and 1987's Persecution Mania (below below). So yeah, Sodom has been around, in one form or another, for 27 years, and are still active today despite the death of their drummer, Witchhunter (R.I.P.), in 2008.
Simply put, these albums are essential. Cruelty's production is weak, but the speed and the malice are still there, along with rad song titles like "Brandish The Sceptre". Mania is a step up in every way. Not only do we get timeless classics like "Christ Passion" and "Outbreak of Evil" (which first appeared on Sign of Evil), but Sodom pulls a major Bro move and throws a Motorhead cover into the mix, too ("Iron Fist").
So sit back, relax, and let Sodom jam a size 12 combat boot right up your potty pocket!

Yes, I realize that this post had nothing to do with 'rum', and also that Sodom is more often considered a 'speed metal' band than a 'thrash' band. But these are the sacrifices that I make for art.
