Bethlehem - Dictius Te Necare

Some of you may remember when Cobras posted the soundtrack to the cult classic, Gummo. One of the stand out tracks from the soundtrack is Bethlehem's Schuld Uns'res Knoch'rigen Faltpferd. To me, one of the things that really sets this track apart is the vocals. They're eerie as hell and not quite like anything else Ive ever heard. Rainer Landfermann, the sick fuck behind the mic for Dictius Te Necare (The album Schuld Uns'res... comes from), is one one of many vocalists who have took the front line for Bethlehem. While I havent heard their complete discography, I can't imagine any of the other six singers coming anywhere close to this guy.
See for yourself here.

Yeah nobody else did from their vocalists. That dude is also the extremely skilled bassist of the extremely skilled German death metal band, Pavor, whom have a very interesting attitude towards labels, signings and record releases. And are extremely skilled. You might want to check them out. I don't like brutal death metal and I like Pavor, for what it's worth.

I can't stomach Bethlehem however, as much as I like the vocals. Something disturbing about them but not in the intended way. Perhaps the alleged heroin use didn't help.

As much as I dig this album, I must for fairness' sake also report that I purchased a Bethlehem double CD years ago (the name escapes me) that was some sort of concept album about mental illness riddled with techno beats and "industrial" flavorings. I purchased it solely on the strength of their song from Gummo, and needless to say was sorely disappointed. These guys are VERY "hit or miss". But I consider Dictius a definite hit.

And PAVOR fucking rules. Ask TMM.

Bethlehem are one of the best. This is what music is all about. There is so much and so many varied emotions layered in this music. There are a few other musicians who make me feel this way, but nobody else that makes me feel it THIS way.

As great as this album is, I love Dark Metal because it really takes me there. It's not better or worse, just different. I haven't heard the new one but the cover looks like a Rob Zombie album, which worries me...
