Anaal Nathrakh (who are named after a character from Excalibur -- true story) was started by two dudes from Mistress and has featured such dignified guest musicians as Shane Embury from Napalm Death/Brujeria and Attila Csihar from Mayhem. In recent years, they've polished and sped up their sound, but in earlier years they were more lo-fi (albeit ON PURPOSE) and raw. Total Fucking Necro is a compilation of their bleakiest, dirtiest, pre-2002 releases, featuring two 1999 demos (one self-titled and the other also called Total Fucking Necro) and select cuts from the album The Codex Necro. So basically, these guys are pretty fucking "necro".
Featuring two Mayhem covers ("De Myteriis Dom Sathanas" and "Carnage") and other tracks featuring names like "The Technogoat" and "Necrodeath", Total Fucking Necro is a dark, grinding, sloppy documentation of the formative years of one of black metal's most envelope-pushing and brutal bands.
