SORORICIDE - THE ENTITY (1991)

In honor of Eyjafjallajokull: another natural disaster from the vast, hoary wastes of Iceland -- SORORICIDE!
Something of a death metal "one hit wonder", Sororicide came out of nowhere to deliver this brutal masterpiece of an album in 1991, releasing only a couple demos and a split album in its wake before returning to complete obscurity. I can't help but be reminded of Demilich a little when I listen to Sororicide. Both groups reek of isolationist "outsider metal", delivering unique and very personal takes on the metal genre without any sense of pretense or obvious influence. And while Sororicide definitely dwell more on the "doom"-y side of the fence than the Finnish Demilich -- their compositions are not quite as busy or discordant -- there is still a sense of total originality present, from the creepy clean guitar interludes to the strangely classical-sounding solos to the crushing gloom of their slower passages. This is early death metal at its finest, the type of stuff that leaves me grinning ear-to-ear every time I hear it.
