BROMANTIC INTERLUDE # 1c: RyGar Finally Burns Out

Welcome, once again, to another post in the 'Bromantic Interludes' series: the third and final in a triumverate of drug-themed guest mixes from our old pal RyGar. The last two posts have focused on the fun part of drug use: Ingestion and the resulting "trip". Not so today. RyGar is gonna harsh all over our collective mellow with a "comedown" mix, so hide the firearms and sharp objects.

Read (and listen to) Part 1 of his epic series here. Do so for Part 2 here. If you've enjoyed what you saw and heard here, feel free to go over to (Nobody Knows) I'm New Wave and stone out on some more of the good shit.

(Caution: Some links are super NSFW. You have been warned.)

Alright, alright, so drugs aren't always fun. The truth is that sometimes drugs will grab your life by it's ass and just rape the shit out of it. So, on this mix I tried to keep with songs about the negative side of things. Bad trips, date-rape, and OD's all show up here. I consider myself very lucky to have survived all of my substance abuse without many repercussions. Some close friends of mine were not so fortunate. I wouldn't be here now, if I hadn't chosen the right time to get the fuck out of my hometown. I don't really want to sound like a P.S.A. here, but you've really got to keep your ass in check. Know your limits and listen to your friends, I guess. Other than that, shit, dog - have a blast! Do that shit you fucking PUSSY!!! COME ONNNNNNNNNNN!!!!!!!! Because this mix isn't as much of a downer as you might think. Hell, you might even start dancing. Slam dancing!

(Just to cover any bases I left out of the last post I did here: here's some more stories about m-e, fuckin', ME! I am not a professional anything, and this is solely for entertainment purposes. So don't blame me if you screw up your life, dicktard.)

You want to talk about Cocaine? I bet you do, but I didn't/don't like it. If you've ever been in a room with anyone on coke, then you probably understand just how horrible that shit is. The high is really short (10,15 minutes?), so you have to do a grip of it. Then, everything that comes out of your mouth will be bullshit. Let me repeat, bullshit. For serious. If you shoot it, however, it will be the most awesome sensation in the world. Too awesome, because if your not of strong will, you'll probably spend the rest of your life chasing that thrill again. And guess what buddy, you're just not gonna find it. The first, and only, time I smoked rocks was an accident. Some friends and I holed up at a place in the Santa Cruz Mountains, and we had been shooting heroin for a couple days (weeks?). There was a guy with us who wasn't so much as a friend, as a guy who had reliable connections. This guy came back from a dope run and he had a busted ass pipe made from a beer bottle neck stuffed with tobacco. I thought it was odd that we were going to smoke our shit, but figured, what the fuck? So, I'm puffing away on this crap, and I'm not getting high. I smoke some more. Then some more. I'm sweating like a motherfucker, but I'm still not high. So I ask this kid, "What the fuck is this shitty dope? I can't even taste the shit!" He pauses from twitching and peering out the blinds and says, "Iss ssssnow. It's C. " Goddamnit! Oh well. Honestly, I didn't get it. I didn't feel high, just nervous and damp.

Oh, Heroin? Yeah, I've done me some heroin, son. It's good stuff. I mean- we all know it is made out of the Grim Reaper's boogers, and there is not a single valid reason to even, ever try it. Unless that reason is, "I do not give a fuck about anything, and I want to get FUCKED UP! Also, I want at least two of my close friends to be dead or in prison." Listen, I want to do the right thing here, and say, "Oh boy, don't you ever ever do no heroin. You'll be addicted after the first time, and your whole life is going to hell real fast if you so much as look at a balloonful of Black Tar", but that's not really honest. The truth is, there are countless people who have done heroin and survived. But, like I said above, their friends doing it with them probably didn't.

Pills are OK. Otherwise doctors wouldn't give them away, stupid. They come in tailor made flavors of high, from men who have to wear white coats to work. Pharmaceuticals are a bazillion dollar industry for a reason. If you liked heroin, you'll love Oxies! Speed is your kick? Steal a couple Aderrall from yer little brother or sister! Don't know what you like? Take some Xanax, and you won't even remember what kind of idiocy you got yourself into last night. All in moderation, of course.

What's that? You don't like drugs? Oh, go Straight Edge! In ten or fifteen years you'll be the biggest fucktard-wastoid on your block.

BROMANTIC INTERLUDE #1b: Surprise, RyGar Is High Again

Our Bro RyGar from (Nobody Knows) I'm New Wave has returned with the second installment of his drug-related music feature for the 'Bromantic Interludes' series. Indulge in the illicit substance of your choice, trip balls, and enjoy.
(Read Part 1 here)

-Cobras

Damn... hold on a sec... fughhh... Ugh-humgh... Alright, here we go: the second installment in my guest feature here at the lovely Illogical Cuntrapshin brog - I mean, "Contraption Blog." Fugh, dude, sorry. I figured I would do this one, and then one more. A tree orgy? No, a "trilogy." Duh. Actually, I was really only invited to do one, but I was overwhelmed in both enthusiasm, and material. I mean, there is obviously no shortage of music that fits into the overarching theme of "drugs." Also, I think I've had my fair share of experiences, and I don't mind talking about them in an honest, sometimes humorous, way. The music on this second mix is focused, albeit loosely, on songs that were either: A.)written/performed/created by people on drugs, or; B.)really awesome to listen to when you, the listener, are on drugs. Or, possibly both. I did my best to avoid the most tired and obvious examples, like "White Rabbit" and "Purple Haze." There's also a gillion or so Stoner Rock songs that I could have included that I enjoy, and they would have fit nicely with the theme, but I like some variety on a mix. These are handpicked. I'll swear by any track on here, even "A Forest." Is it not cool to listen to The Cure these days? I never know where the trends are at. I mean, The Cure probably have about 113 songs that I really don't ever want to hear anywhere, ever. But, they also have a dozen or so really, really good ones. I enjoy melancholy tunes, sometimes. I digress. This mix is over an hour long, because I'm stoned, so it's a big file. Roughly 160MBs, if you wanna get in a dick measuring contest about it. And now, I'll tell y'all lil'uns 'bout how we used to do.
[Here's where I delve into the tedious rehashing of my personal drug use. Skip to the end if you only care about the music. It's cool, I understand. For the sake of reducing my risk of prosecution or legal ramifications: Let me just say that absolutely none of this is true. Even if it is. It's totally fictional, coppers.]
I grew up in and around the Santa Cruz Mountains in Northern California. It's the kind of area that's pretty diverse, in that, there's beautiful redwood forests, there's urban sprawl, there's the coast, and there's also big city, all within an hour's car ride. Anyways, it's also really easy to buy just about any kind of drug there. For example, when I was in eighth grade, I already had connections for weed, crank, acid, and the occasional shrooms. And, by that time, I had tried them all, as well. South of Humboldt, there is no finer pot than the beautiful, and potent Santa Cruz Mountain shit, and we spent almost every waking hour smoking it out of everything we could get our dirty hands on. Pipes, bongs, cans, apples, make-shift tinfoil affairs, small dead rodents, trees, fm radios, we packed 'em full of that dank, sticky green and smoked our developing adolescent lungs black. Crank (meth) was also really popular at the time, but it's one of the few things that embarasses me to talk about. I never had a habit. I wasn't a tweaker. I never 'stayed up' longer than 48 hrs, but yeah, I did some rails. More than I would like to have done, looking back. To try and get perspective on it, I'd say I used it about 30 times between the age of 13 and 20, and never since. I didn't really like the high, and it meant not sleeping, and I love to fucking catch some motherfuckin' Z's. It made me sit for hours, writing and re-writing the same shitty songs and poems, over and overe, because there couldn't be any mistakes on the page. It killed erectile function (in my case anyways). It made my already terrible zits grow zits. It turned a lot of friends into untrustable, theiving, fucktards. Bad news. My main kick was Acid, though. Mainly because it's dirt fucking cheap, and it really fucks you up. Tabs, or hits, of blotter acid sold at 2 for $5, 5 for $1o, and you could just buy them off the street at "hippie corner" (Pacific Garden Mall, Santa Cruz). In fact, I only attended 13 days of my first freshmen semester at school. The rest of them, I would wake up, throw a blanket in my backpack and pretend to leave for school, then hitchhike over the hill, take a nap near the beach, score a couple tabs and trip balls at the boardwalk. I couldn't then, and still really can't afford a modest pot habit. Weed has held a pretty steady price point of $50 bucks an eigth (3.5 grams). That lasts me maybe four days. You do the math, I'm stoned. Anyways, because of it's relative cheapness, I did a ton of LSD. I'd say I tripped at least 200 times between the ages 14 and 17. Really, that's way, way, way to many times, but my mom usually gave me $5 for lunch. Everyday. I was going to talk more about that, but I realized that Bruce McCullouch pretty much nailed all of my points on the last mix. So... Shrooms? Awesome. I'm still down for it every once in a blue moon, but not in the city. Uggggh. No fun puking on those bastards either. It gets you all worried about the supposed 'death caps' that look just like the psylocibin variety but kill in small doses. Forget I said that if you plan on going on a shroom trip, I probably just harshed your mellow. Oops. The best trip I had involved drinking a couple beers with my caps, and I've since heard that that can be a lethal combo, so I do not endorse that. But, it was fucking great for me. Slinky legs, breathing brick walls, cacphonous frogs real and imagined - whoo. Well, that''s about all the space I can justify taking up at someone else's place, and more. See you next time in the third and final installment.

BROMANTIC INTERLUDE #1a: RyGar Gets Us High

Welcome, friends, to a brand new feature here on I.C., an ongoing series I call 'Bromantic Interludes'.
The basic idea: I give a one-word concept to a guest blogger, who in turn creates a digital "mix" based on that concept for us all to download. Simple enough, correct?
Of course.

To kick things off, I was lucky enough to enlist RyGar (right), sole proprietor and mastermind behind the brilliant and addicting (Nobody Knows) I'm New Wave. RyGar has been a friend of The Contraption since way back, and knowing of his propensity for indulgence in green, leafy substances, I assigned him the following concept: "DRUGS".

I should have known it would happen -- RyGar was so enthusiastic about the subject at hand that his mix couldn't be confined to just ONE volume. Expect more from him (and others) in the near future...

-Cobras

First off, let me thank blogmaster and all around awesome dude Shelby Cobras for having me over as a guest. I promise not to make a huge mess, bro.

Drugs - I love them. I mean, I'm not like, snorting crystal meth off the tits of a silverback gorilla in my spare hours, but I've had some truly great times 'tripping the life fantastic' as they say. Most of my hard substance abuse adventuring happened in my mid-teens (94-98, though, to be honest, I'm not the greatest when it comes to remembering chronology). I guess I was about thirteen the first time I smoked weed. There was this older kid, Bryan Duft (not his real name), who was kind of a pagan, pre-corporate-merchandise goth. He showed up at my friends apartment with something he called 'creeper weed', and we smoked a couple bowls while watching Beavis and Butthead. Some people say they don't get stoned the first time. Those people suck at getting high/life. I was fucking ripped! I laughed and giggled for hours. I understood, almost immediately, that our parents and teachers were full of shit. Pot wasn't dangerous, it was awesome! And, if pot was great, what about all the other drugs? Crack seemed a little sketchy, and not much fun, judging by my step dad's vacant, drooling mug. Heroin was rock n'roll, but it gave you AIDS, and almost definitely killed you. What was left? Mushrooms, Acid, Speed, ecstasy, PCP, and pills in every color of the gay rainbow. In the next few years I made my way through all of them, and I'll tell you more about that in future installments.

This first mix is mostly straight-forward 'songs about drugs'. Genre-wise, it's all over the place, but mostly lands on the "Punk/Hardcore" side of the proverbial fence. "Why isn't there more Metal?", I can hear you whine. Probably because these songs were chosen for their lyrical significance concerning the theme at hand, and metal isn't known for lyrical coherence. Also, during the years that I was doing the drugs, I wasn't listening to much Metal. Sorry, guy. Maybe I'll get some more blastbeats and grunts on the next mix. Now, get properly munted on the substance of your choice and enjoy:

DRUGS: Vol. 1 - Ingestion and uptake.
