JOSEPH LoDUCA - EVIL DEAD II SOUNDTRACK (1987)

"Evil Dead 2: Dead By Dawn" is on any gorehound's short-list of the best slasher flicks ever made. The mixture of in-your face arterial spray and slapstick humor makes for a unique experience, and the pacing and editing set a new standard for the horror genre altogether. Often overlooked, though, is Joseph LoDuca's impeccable score. LoDuca was director Sam Raimi's go-to guy, he scored almost all of Raimi's films and several of his TV shows too (anyone remeber 'Xena' or 'Cleopatra 2525'?). LoDuca's most commercial work was in 2002's "Brotherhood of the Wolf", an excellent French film marred by bad French CGI. But back in '87, he was composing the creepiest, darkest film scores around. Hopping around from tense, minor-key waltzes to sparse, 'things-that-go-bump-in-the-night' abstractions, his music kept pace with some of the eeriest and most intense cinema ever produced. I've mentioned before that I'm a big fan of horror soundtracks. This is one of the best.
