I've probably been listening to the uber-metal-nerd, uber-completist Requiem Metal Podcast a bit more than is healthy as of late, but a pleasant side effect of my addiction has been exposure to a couple of early 90's Swedish black/death crossover bands left previously undiscovered, semi-obscure peers of Dissection and Sacramentum such as Unanimated, Necrophobic, and today's featured act, DAWN.
Requiem hosts Mark and Jason are seemingly obsessed with everything Swedish and evil, from the earliest mutterings of Merciless and Nihilist to the latter-day releases of Marduk and Watain. And for good reason. Swedish black metal exists in an almost entirely isolated genre from their Norwegian neighbors, with focus shifted more toward melody and structure that nekrotik kvltism. And shit, Swedish death metal? Forget about it. Hence, the Swedish black/death mashups of the early-to-mid 90's are some of the tastiest releases to ever grace the extreme metal realm. Mark knows it, Jason knows it, and Shelby Cobras knows it. End of story.

This is great stuff man. I appreciate it.
just when I was thinking that I keep up with too many podcasts
I'm sure this means that I can use Metal Requiem to replace a shitty one
Yeah, I listen to those guys all the time too. The Car Talk of metal.
Great album by a great band! I already have all their releases, but its nice to know someone out there knows about them.
another badass band discovery courtesy of illcon. thanks man
Fuck, this is one of my favorite metal albums. A lot of people hold up their last album as their best, but I always thought this one was a lot more interesting. I seriously cannot fathom why this album doesn't get more attention.
Pretty cool.
