2 BANDS, 1 SONG, INFINITE AWESOMENESS
Even though Alice Cooper is a douchey, Republican, restaurant-chain-owning golf enthusiast these days, there's no denying that the motherfucker wrote and recorded some epic jams back in the day. For some reason, I hadn't listened to "The Ballad of Dwight Fry" off of 1971's Love It To Death for a really long time until this morning.
Goddamn. That song FUCKING RULES! Check it out:
Alice Cooper, "The Ballad of Dwight Fry" (pardon the corny slideshow, it was the best audio I could find):
Nerd Notes: Dwight Frye was an actor who portrayed the schizophrenic Renfield in 1931's Dracula. Cooper removed the 'e' from the end of his name to avoid a lawsuit.
Oh, and by the way... The Melvins do a really awesome cover of this song too.
Melvins, "The Ballad of Dwight Fry":

My daughter Darrylynn is a big fan of Alice Cooper's performance here. Me, I don't know much about the man's politics but up to 1977.....his albums are some of my all time favorites. KILLERS is so great.
The Melvins also cover Halo of Flies on their latest album with Jello Biafra, Seig Howdy. I have both of them if you want them.
Killers = yes, don't have it. Seig Howdy = not so much. As much as i love the DKs, Jello's post-DK work bugs the hell out of me, pretty much without exception. The only reason i know about Alice's weak-ass GOP POV and restaurant ownership is that i saw something about him either on Tony Bourdain's No Reservations or that crappy Guy Fieri show on the Food Channel. He's a douche now.
Isn't it great raising a child in the fallout of the 70's and 80's? Such a wonderful effluvium of weird shit to expose your children to...
