ENNIO MORRICONE - THE LEGENDARY ITALIAN WESTERNS (1990)
Often imitated, never duplicated, Ennio Morricone is the unrivaled master of the spaghetti western soundtrack. His unique arrangements, populated by reverbed-out guitars, orchestral choruses, and all manner of previously-unheard-of instrumentation, set the tone for dozens of Italian cowboy flicks in the 60's and 70's, including A Fistful of Dollars, The Good, The Bad, And The Ugly, and Once Upon A Time In The West. His impact on the film soundtrack genre at large cannot be overestimated. He rules.
Here's a 31-track collection of some of his finest jams. They're all great, but a quick warning for Morricone beginners: Beware the songs featuring "guest vocalists". Good luck.
A couple quick facts about the man -
1) In his early days, Ennio was highly influenced by American avant-garde/experimental musician John Cage.
2) Ennio has an asteroid named after him: 152118 Morricone.
3) Dude has an ENORMOUS forehead. Look at that thing! You could play soccer on it!
