VARIOUS ARTISTS - NORDIC METAL: A TRIBUTE TO EURONYMOUS (1994)
Originally released by the now-defunct Necropolis Records, the Nordic Metal compilation features several Norwegian black metal bands that would go on to become some of the biggest names in the genre. Surfacing shortly after the murder of Mayhem guitarist Øystein "Euronymous" Aarseth, this disc contains exactly what you would expect - a bunch of raw, hateful BM, delivered by dudes in spikes, leather, and a shit-ton of dorky corpsepaint. They're almost all winners, but my favorite is the lead track from Abruptum. Pure fucking sonic malevolence.
Abruptum - De Profundis Mors Vas Consumet
Mayhem - Freezing Moon
Dissection - Where Dead Angels Lie
Emperor - Moon Over Kara-Shehr
Mysticum - Kingdom Come
Marduk - Untrodden Paths (Wolves Pt. II)
Thorns - Ærie Descent
Mayhem - Pagan Fears
Dissection - Elizabeth Bathory
Ophthalamia - Deathcrush
Enslaved - Loke
Arcturus - Raudt Og Svart
Mysticum - In Your Grave
Emperor - The Ancient Queen
Mortiis - Unreleased Outro

I like how the Dissection songs are in no way related to Euronymous or Mayhem. One is a Nodtveidt original, and one is a cover of a Tormentor song. Cash grab!
