THRONES - DAY LATE, DOLLAR SHORT (2005)
Something of a Greatest Hits/Outtakes/B-Sides collection from Thrones aka Joe Preston aka God. Contained herein are several fabulous cover songs (including B.O.C.'s "Black Blade" and Rush's "Oracle" - which actually DOESN'T SUCK (?!?)), a couple weird, nonsensical LSD interludes, and a shit-ton of down-tuned, utterly crushing DOOM. All material was produced between '94 and '01, gleaned from compilations, 7 inches, and various clippings from the studio floor. All tracks have their own sense of unique strangeness, populated with phased-out, fluttering vocals, heavily-modulated organ, screeching guitars, and sputtering, tinny drum machines. An alternate version of one of my favorite songs ever, "Obolus" is here too, although it's a bit shorter and tidier than the original (which you can also get here).
Mr. Preston's credentials speak for themselves: He has logged time with Earth, The Melvins, Sunn O))), High on Fire, Harvey Milk, Men's Recovery Project, and countless others. But Thrones is a trip deep within his mind, and his mind only.
And what a dark, fascinating place it is.

Thanks!
For those of you who don't know it, check out Joe's weekly radio show "F That S" at http://www.combatmusicradio.com. Usually a good mix of classic metal/hard rock and movie soundtracks.
Thanks for the tip, Rune. That sounds right up my alley.
The album name reminds me of the rule at my work, every minute late is a dollar less. That really sucks, specially if your car is broken and you depend on public transportation.
It is really amazing. It's looking amazing.... Great work! Thanks for your insight for the great written piece.
