SATURDAY MORNING DOUBLE FEATURE: THE EXCEPTION THAT PROVES THE RULE

Nobody likes a quitter. Unless the person is ME, and the quitter in question is Jon Nodtveidt, who "quit" living on August 13, 2006.
Wait, let me clarify: I don't necessarily "like" Jon as a human being, as he was an asshole, Satanic douche, and convicted murderer. But as a musician, the man was brilliant. he formed Dissection at the ripe old age of 14, and recorded their two finest albums between the ages of 18 and 20. Hard to believe, considering the maturity and melodic complexity of his compositions. Quite simply, The Somberlain and Storm of the Light's Bane are two of the best fucking black metal albums ever made, packed with equal amounts of both demonic hatred and epic, Wagnerian bombast.
After making these two albums, Nodtveidt was convicted of the aforementioned murder, went to prison for a few years, was released in 2003, made a terrible "comeback" album (2006's Reinkaos), and then finally offed himself for Satan in the middle of a ring of a candles at the age of 31.
Long story short, an incredibly fucked-up dude who made some amazing music. Not an entirely uncommon concept.

  1. Speaking of contributing authors, where is the IC street team these days? They don't even come in to poke fun at Cobras in the comments anymore much less make a post. The random generator is fun though. I forgot how hilarious the mega shark review was. 0:51:52 - Awww shit. Mega Shark is about to fuck some shit up... Pure, unadulterated genius!

  2. Fuck yeah! Dissection was great. I had such high hopes for the post prison material. Allegedly he had an album in pre-production before the court case. And he had a guitar in jail with nothing else to do. I still don't understand why rheinkhaos wasn't better. I mean it wasn't terrible but compared to the Somberlain and Storm...

Maybe the other musicians dragged it down? After all, they had to be "anti-cosmic" satanists and even Bard fucking Faust didn't make the ideological cut.

  3. Anon - Del Tigre and The Heckler are running around Europe, K-Rock is just flaky in general, and Peter's got no internet connection. Or rather, he JUST got good internet and should be posting again soon. As for those other slackers, who knows? Fuck em.

  4. This guy was definitely messed up. But this music is just beyond awesome. How come the best end up being so twisted. And well it all ended up like it begun... with a blow.
