I have gushed about this band before. I will gush about them again. These guys are the ultimate grindcore nerds -- who else would have the balls to package their album (DIY style) with a 200-page booklet containing directions on how to rewire your Game Boy for custom play, drawing parallels between that and the way that humans program, deprogram, and reprogram their own children? What the fuck, guys? REALLY?!?!
Every time I see another "offensive" pornogrind band writing songs about vaginas full of chainsaws and pooping on hookers I think of CiC. Every time I see a subpar "metalcore" band rocking hella sweet nautical star tats and hella mediocre "mosh riffs" I think of CiC. Every time I see another uber-technical deathgrind band performing utterly soulless fretboard gymnastics in circles around themselves, I think of CiC. They set an unrealistic precedent. They perfected the balance of art and shred, of cerebral logic and visceral catharsis. You don't get it, fuck you.
Creation Is Crucifixion are most likely the ONLY grindcore band EVER that could actually, physically rewire your video gaming system of choice, thoroughly school you at Zelda, and then mosh your fucking balls off with thoroughly tasty riffs and inhuman blastbeats -- all while simultaneously studying Erik Erikson's eight stages of psychosocial development and B. F. Skinner's behaviorism theories alongside the owner's manual of an original Sega Genesis. Child As Audience was their third full-length release. Although it contains only three actual "songs", it is filled with lots of strange noise and spoken word weirdness, establishing it as a full and thoroughly thought-out "concept album". Links for their first two LPs included at the end of the post, chances are you'll be seeing the fourth one here soon as well...

"a 200-page booklet containing directions on how to rewire your Game Boy for custom play, drawing parallels between that and the way that humans program, deprogram, and reprogram their own children?"
ReplyDeleteWow, that's unbelievable. (I feel really dumb now)
Well, now I want to try to rewire my old Game Boy. I'm sure that I'd just break it.
ReplyDeleteAwesome band, GREAT live and SUPER nice guys to boot. What's the 4th album? Is it the 'Rerecorded tracks from vinyl splits' CD, or am I missing one??!
ReplyDeleteIt's called Destructivist.
ReplyDeleteHmmmmmm...guess I don't got it then! YOINKS!
ReplyDeleteOkay I generally don't listen to grind. But they seem special. Should I? Cobras, you know my brand of weird. Will it withstand CiC?
ReplyDeleteStart from their earlier stuff, if it takes, move on to Child As Audience. I definitely hope you can get into them, it's dense, claustrophobic metal, but punctuated by bouts of ambient and sometimes quite nonsensical noise interludes which might put you off. I'm interested to hear your reaction, really.
