If you've ever visited The Morgue, you know that Phelpster is an all-knowing master of 80's movies and the music thereof. But the man knows his metal as well, in addition to being pretty handy with the Photoshop (see below). We here at IC are stoked that he agreed to stop by and drop this flaming bag on our front porch, and hope that you will join us in attempting to stomp it out.
But enough talk -- Let's KILL!
- Cobras
Phelpster here, a few of you might know me from legendary* Manchester Morgue and Space Bastard! blogs. If you aren't sure who the hell I am (I assume that'll be most of you) and you've never experienced any of my other compilations I've done before, you can check them out now.
Now that I've got the introduction/shameless site plug out of the way, "Murder" was the theme that Shelby gave me for this compilation and as you'll see from the track list I took some liberties with the theme - not all of these are about murder in the strictest sense. While most of the song choices here are about murder - be it a detailed account of the grisly demise of a beloved TV family or an addiction to wartime mass murder - some of the tracks just have the word murder in the title. Hell the opening track is from a movie with the word murder in the title.
That said, I'm sure most of you won't be too worried about how close I stuck to the theme. The music genres are mixed up enough that I'm sure most of you will find at least a few songs to enjoy here (and probably a few to hate as well). Before I start to ramble on too much, here's your tracklist:
Zombi - Flashback
Austrian Death Machine - Let Off Some Steam, Bennett
The Alan Parsons Project - The Tell-Tale Heart
Elvis Costello & The Attractions - Kinder Murder
Pig Destroyer - Murder Blossom
David Bowie - Runnin' Gun Blues
Kreator - Murder Fantasies
Screeching Weasel - Murder In The Brady House
Bruno Nicolai - Murder in the Elevator
Girlschool - Screaming Blue Murder
The Smiths - Meat is Murder
The Deadlines - Vegecide
Vorhees - Redrum
Keith Emerson - Murder Rock
Wilco - Via Chicago
The Lillingtons - Murder On My Mind
Dr. Dre - Murder Ink (Instrumental)
Planes Mistaken For Stars - Killed by Killers Who Killed Each Other
Stryper - Murder By Pride
The Beautiful South - Woman in the Wall
Gorky's Zygotic Mynci - Murder Ballad
Vehemence - She Never Noticed Me
Here's a few notes on a couple of my song choices
Zombi - Flashback - From the film Murder Set Pieces. I haven't seen it (not a big graphic murder scene for the sake of a graphic murder scene guy) but seeing that it's comprised mostly of murder set pieces it's safe to say there's a murder taking place while this music is playing.
Austrian Death Machine - Let Off Some Steam, Bennett - Austrian Death Machine is a side project of the guitarist from As I Lay Dying. It's a thrashy parody/homage to the cinematic works of Arnold Schwarzenegger - with a guy doing an Arnold impersination on most (all?) of the tracks. It's an odd idea, but for the most part it's pretty enjoyable. I chose this song for a murder compilation because it's based on Commando - a film in which The Gubernatorial Genocider offs six, seven thousand bad guys (give or take six, or seven thousand) to save a young Alyssa Milano.
David Bowie - Runnin' Gun Blues - This song is about a gentleman in the military who really seems to get a kick out of the whole "killing humans" aspect of war. So much, in fact, that he keeps on killing after the war has ended. Fun fact: One of the few David Bowie songs in which he uses the word "gook"
Bruno Nicolai - Murder in the Elevator - From the film Perché quelle strane gocce di sangue sul corpo di Jennifer aka What are those Strange Drops of Blood Doing on Jennifer's Body aka Curse of the Bloody Iris. Played over this scene (she's in an elevator):
*Neither Manchester Morgue, nor Space Bastard! has ever been referred to as legendary by anyone other than myself earlier in this post.
