SATURDAY MORNING DOUBLE FEATURE: CROWNING ACHIEVEMENTS

First and third albums from The Crown, one of the best fucking bands to ever come out of the whole Swedish melodic-death-metal thing. If you've never heard them, these guys are as good as their band photo and album covers are bad, a completely raging, intense metallic beast galloping across the frozen tundra at 200 BPM. Although The Crown is a bit beefier and more Satanic, At The Gates comparisons are inevitable, as ATG vocalist Tomas Lindberg joined the band just before the recording of Crowned In Terror. But these guys are their own animal: Catchy, evil, brutal, smart, and cheezy all at the same time. I believe their song "Death Metal Holocaust" explains it best in the poignant chorus, when Lindberg sings:

"DEATH!!! METALLLL!!! HOLOOCAAAUUUUSSST!!!"

Now let's play a fun Crown-related game: Check out the following song, and tell me (in the 'Comments' section) which popular 1980's television theme song they're ripping off between 2:30 and 3:00. It should be fairly obvious.

  1. Haha, YESSSS!!! Me and my bros have been cracking up about that shit for years... The Crown have a vague "racing" theme going on too, which makes me wonder if it's on purpose or not...

  2. No Deathrace King? I love these guys. They definitely have a lot of Motorhead in them, which is a good thing. They were pretty good live, so if you missed them you can only cry in your beer.

P.S., I find them a lot more thrash than ATG.

  3. Remember KIT's evil twin CAR. He had a yellow light on front instead of red.

  4. Brilliantly named, CAR was. The yellow light was analogous to Evil Spock's goatee.
